Quinter Blow

2026-09-12 By Roger Edwards

Quinter Blow
Quinter and its vicinity are best known among storm chasers for a series of tornadoes almost 18 years earlier, on a day I couldn’t head out due to having an evening shift.    So with me, a long history of intercepting destructive bows and outflow-dominant supercells in northwestern Kansas has earned it a reputation for ridiculously severe thunderstorm winds — few manifesting more picturesque than this haboob under striated storm-cloud layers of a heavy-precip supercell with many drought-affected fields in its path.   Roaring right down I-70 for many miles, the storm made that road “Haboob Highway” on this memorable evening.

About

Welcome to SkyPix, an online photo book of clouds, weather and water by Roger Edwards. As in a printed coffee-table book, every image has its own page with a unique story. After all, meaningful photography is much more than just picture-taking; it is visually rendering a moment in place and time from a perspective like none other. As a scientist and an artist, I hope my deep passion for the power and splendor of our skies and waters shines through in these pages. If you are a cloud and weather aficionado, outdoor enthusiast, outdoor or nature photographer, art lover, or anyone who craves learning, enjoy...
