The legendary Bennington tornado got surrounded by thick curtains of rain on several occasions, remaining visible but nearly cloaking itself once from our perspective before a temporary unveiling again, followed by this mostly rain-shrouded, barrel-shaped appearance that embarked a protracted final stage of dense precipitation wrapping. Sporadically the violent vortex became invisible, then at least somewhat visible again, as the deep occlusion process flung alternating heavy and moderate moats of rain in a huge, wet merry-go-round with the seemingly relentless tornado at its center. Fortunately for us, the big circulation lumbered in a slow loop mostly to our west, allowing extended viewing of more than half an hour from one spot.
