The Inspirational Cascade
Rare and deeply treasured are those moments in life that are both inwardly and outwardly so beautiful and transcendent, that all sense of self, time and worldly distractions effortlessly evaporate into the ether of awestruck wonder. At that time and from this vantage, Seljalandsfoss swept me so fully into that moment, over and over in continuum, as if I were recursively riding each drop that spilled over the ledge, and every particle of spray wafting astray, all at once. For nearly too long, even photography was inconceivable. Only a fleeting but powerful thought of a recently deceased friend, whose outstanding outdoor photography demonstrated his own abilities of immersive appreciation, brought me back in—jabbed at me really, as if he were right there saying, “Snap out of it man, and shoot! This is absolutely amazing!” Sadly, he never made it to Iceland; but I think his spirit did. So…this one’s dedicated to you, ARM. Thanks for all your photographic inspiration over the decades.
