Stroke of Brilliance

2016-02-02 By Roger Edwards

Stroke of Brilliance A tremendous two-channeled strike brightly illuminated land, sky and water near the north end of Lake Murray.  While a dazzling and spectacular display for the lightning photographer, this is not what any given fisherman wishes to see while cruising his bass boat across the water.  Fortunately, a different severe storm already had come and gone very recently, clearing all nautical traffic off the lake for the night, and this explosion of electrical fury would represent the newer thunderstorm’s closest approach.  Out on the water, there is no protection from lightning but blind luck, and for the solo boater, no immediate first aid if struck.  That is a most disturbing predicament, one best avoided through awareness of the weather. 4 SSE Ardmore OK (8 May 9) Looking NNE 34.1131, -97.1082

About

Welcome to SkyPix, an online photo book of clouds, weather and water by Roger Edwards. As in a printed coffee-table book, every image has its own page with a unique story. After all, meaningful photography is much more than just picture-taking; it is visually rendering a moment in place and time from a perspective like none other. As a scientist and an artist, I hope my deep passion for the power and splendor of our skies and waters shines through in these pages. If you are a cloud and weather aficionado, outdoor enthusiast, outdoor or nature photographer, art lover, or anyone who craves learning, enjoy...
