Stroke of Brilliance
A tremendous two-channeled strike brightly illuminated land, sky and water near the north end of Lake Murray. While a dazzling and spectacular display for the lightning photographer, this is not what any given fisherman wishes to see while cruising his bass boat across the water. Fortunately, a different severe storm already had come and gone very recently, clearing all nautical traffic off the lake for the night, and this explosion of electrical fury would represent the newer thunderstorm’s closest approach. Out on the water, there is no protection from lightning but blind luck, and for the solo boater, no immediate first aid if struck. That is a most disturbing predicament, one best avoided through awareness of the weather.
