Fall Squall in the San Juans
After witnessing a dramatic mountain sky, we plunged in, pulled off, and let a squall line blasted past our location, with lightning, small hail and rain in lower elevations, and snow in the higher reaches of the San Juans. Strong outflow blew past us as well, evident in the bending of the tree branches. This thunderstorm complex would deposit the season’s first snowfall upon the previously bare peaks, and as such, the last snowmelt of the following summer. A most interesting day of autumnal sky and land scenery later included a brilliant rainbow not far from here.
