Spotlit Downburst
A persistent hole in the outflow-lifted clouds, ahead of a broken squall line, allowed sunshine to spotlight an area of rugged hills and rain above, between Bullhead City and Kingman, as a locally severe downburst descended into its valleys and outward across the desert floor. The shafts of sunlight shifted upward off the terrain and more into the core, as the outflow clouds evolved and locally heavy rain hit the hills. Just half an hour before, temperatures over 100 degrees F cooked this area, and the evaporative cooling of rain into that layer strengthened the density currents and boosted wind speeds. Even within the broader outflow slab, noticeably stronger and cooler winds rushed away from the downburst core for miles in all directions, including past my location, while the core still was descending.
