Scottsbluff Bow: Middle Apex

2020-05-17 By Roger Edwards

Scottsbluff Bow: Middle Apex [Part 2 of 3]  How would you like to see this coming right at you?  From ground upward, the looming bow displayed layers of dust, scud, midlevel striations, and bizarre mid-upper level strands of translucence that reminded me of atmospheric Silly String.  I hadn’t witnessed anything quit like that before.  There wasn’t much time to stand in awe and admiration of the unique cloud display, however.  The bow’s apex aimed itself directly at our position, moving at over 50 mph.  Fortunately the roads from this point led toward the east and southeast, and were well-maintained primary highways, allowing reliable (albeit rather nerve-wracking) egress from the onrushing slab of flooding rains and severe winds.  [Part 3] 1 E Minatare NE (16 Jun 11) Looking W 41.8141, -103.4796

About

Welcome to SkyPix, an online photo book of clouds, weather and water by Roger Edwards. As in a printed coffee-table book, every image has its own page with a unique story. After all, meaningful photography is much more than just picture-taking; it is visually rendering a moment in place and time from a perspective like none other. As a scientist and an artist, I hope my deep passion for the power and splendor of our skies and waters shines through in these pages. If you are a cloud and weather aficionado, outdoor enthusiast, outdoor or nature photographer, art lover, or anyone who craves learning, enjoy...
