Return Flow over Okie Beach
Intense return flow from the south whipped cumuliform clouds in the upper boundary layer into ragged fractocumulus shards, while weak storms tried but mostly failed to develop along the dryline to the west. A little data, a little fishing, a little swimming…why not? Even though this day ended up with no storms of consequence for me, there are worse places to wait for them to develop. I’d rather spend preconvective time at a lake, or out on the open Plains somewhere in the wild breeze, than on some grimy concrete slab at a gas station or truck stop, that’s for sure. If I’m not easy to find on many chase days before storms, it’s because I’m out there keeping company with the clouds and wind, instead of buried in the chattering hordes, diesel smoke and engine noises.
