Pleasant Evening by the Bighorns

2018-08-03 By Roger Edwards

Following an interesting storm-observing day in the Bighorn Basin and Mountains, a dinner in Buffalo, and a pollen storm unique to our experience, we retreated to our lodging for the evening.  Not yet spent, I went back out for the sunset and was glad of it.  While not lighting the sky and land aflame with mind-bending color intensity, this more subtle, textured sky still satisfied the thirst and soothed the soul, especially when caressed by a gentle breeze of cool outflow air, the gurgling rush of a nearby Powder River tributary, and the last daily calls of a few western meadowlarks echoing across the landscape.  Midlevel cloud rags caught and filtered some reflected glow from the sunlit clouds above, spreading the sunset light across a broader an deeper sector of the sky than otherwise possible. 4 NE Buffalo WY (7 Jun 18) Looking W 44.373, -106.6396

About

Welcome to SkyPix, an online photo book of clouds, weather and water by Roger Edwards. As in a printed coffee-table book, every image has its own page with a unique story. After all, meaningful photography is much more than just picture-taking; it is visually rendering a moment in place and time from a perspective like none other. As a scientist and an artist, I hope my deep passion for the power and splendor of our skies and waters shines through in these pages. If you are a cloud and weather aficionado, outdoor enthusiast, outdoor or nature photographer, art lover, or anyone who craves learning, enjoy...
