Not So Plain View
After observing high-based, windy, wet, mostly nondescript late-afternoon storms around the Lubbock area, a couple of them assumed at least loosely supercellular character, enhancing their upward and outward cloud-mass production. That evolution just in time for me to shoot the gap between the messy supercells, blow off their very meager to zero tornado potential, and instead head to the backside in hopes of an amazing sunset scene. That gamble paid off big, in the form of this astounding view, which was not “plain” in any way, despite the name of the nearby city of Plainview. Moving northward beneath that strip of mammatus, in twilight, yielded another marvelous scene!
