Lower Geyser Basin: Steam and Storm
Assorted steam vents, fumaroles, hot springs and geysers wafted steamy vapors skyward, more visible than usual amidst their thermal contrast with cool, moist air left behind by thunderstorm outflows. In the distance, elevated storms offer still more chilling rains, their darker tones further accentuating the visual contrast with the geothermal plumes. The net effect was a bizarre visual sensation of the land on fire as chilled, wet air permeatedthe other senses.
