Many supercells reveal some form of band or tail extending upwind in the low levels, in the direction of the inflow. Here are some fantastic examples of these “inflow stingers”: spike-like extensions of laminar cloud material forming in regions of convectively forced ascent, where the low pressure of the supercell draws bands of convergent air inward and upward. The process is loosely similar to spiral bands of a hurricane. The suspicious cloud-base feature in the distance is not a funnel cloud, despite being in a good place for one. Instead, it is just harmless scud.
