Dune-like sastrugi gathered at the top of the view, while icy knobs of murky lake water acted as obstacle-flow barriers to snow crystals being blown along the top of their layer. The knobs formed as wave action and spray wettened upward protrusions from the lakeshore and quickly froze in single-digit to subzero (Fahrenheit) cold. A light snowfall then covered the frozen lake surface, giving away the wind direction (north, or lower left to upper right) by vurtue of the deposition patterns. Like sand grains, snowflakes can become collectively and effectively a fluid—especially relatively dry snow such as this. All of this fluid flow of gas, liquid and solid at various scales painted for us naturally the abstract artistry seen here. All the outdoors is an ever-changing, fluid art museum, costing only effort, time and whatever you choose to spend on traveling the distance to view.
