One among numerous spectacular cloud-to-ground flashes, on a magical night between Tucson and Phoenix, blasted some patch of desert nearby in two places, thanks to a split contact channel. The bottom of the brightest channel was windblown enough to see slight displacement for its flashes as well; one can tell it wasn’t camera shake by the lack of similar horizontal displacement of any other forks or silhouetted ground features. The strike points were hidden by a sheet of outflow dust hurtling southwestward at around 40 mph. A series of storms moving off higher terrain to the ENE trained over the region, each high-based, each flinging CG strikes around like confetti, much to the delight of this photographer!
