Electric Mesocyclone

2016-03-27 By Roger Edwards

Electric Mesocyclone What had been a rather benign, if messy, mesocyclone region got visually organized very nicely within just a few minutes, accompanied by a barrage of CGs on all sides.  Fortunately I was able to capture this one, before advising a northbound driver who stopped to ask about the storm: “Don’t go that way!”  Fortunately she heeded those words once I explained the problem posed by this storm structure.  Had she proceeded, her car would have taken a furious beating from the hard, severe hail just east of (and eventually wrapping around) this wall cloud—and upon slowing down or stopping in the hail, the risk of being blown over by winds of the mesocyclone, or even a brief tornado.  Instead the driver turned back south, wisely saving the trip for a safer time. 4 ENE Last Chance CO (23 Jun 13) Looking N 39.7544, -103.518

About

Welcome to SkyPix, an online photo book of clouds, weather and water by Roger Edwards. As in a printed coffee-table book, every image has its own page with a unique story. After all, meaningful photography is much more than just picture-taking; it is visually rendering a moment in place and time from a perspective like none other. As a scientist and an artist, I hope my deep passion for the power and splendor of our skies and waters shines through in these pages. If you are a cloud and weather aficionado, outdoor enthusiast, outdoor or nature photographer, art lover, or anyone who craves learning, enjoy...
