Unplanned more than a few minutes in advance, therefore greatly appreciated, this remarkable scene greeted me on the front side of a band of thunderstorms rolling into Oklahoma City. I had been returning from a two-day chase trip to southeastern Kansas, just trying to beat the rain home on day three. Rounding the corner of I-35 and I-40 east of downtown OKC, I gazed straight into some of my favorite light starting to take shape: front-lit foreground, dark and stormy background. The difference this time, compared to most, was that the darkness was in the west, and the storm was moving in. Blue skies in the east, beneath the anvil edge, reflect off the nearest face of the Devon Tower’s glass, at left.
