Here, in autumnal resplendence, washes the lowest in a series of waterfalls along the Ellis River, collectively known as Crystal Cascades. This stream drains the eastern side of Mount Washington, home of the highest elevation in the northeastern U.S. Despite the adjoining trail’s popularity, the waterfalls were loud enough to drown out most nearby human chatter, making the time spent in the river not just about photography, but closing eyes and appreciatively taking in the sound of the rushing water.
