Chiricahua Twilight: Magenta

2021-08-11 By Roger Edwards

Chiricahua Twilight: Magenta

[Part 2 of 2]  For this shot, I had retreated back to the vehicle, parked about 50 feet east of the Arizona/New Mexico line, due to light rain and just a little nearby lightning.   I was barely in New Mexico; the fence, scrub brush and mountains are across the road in Arizona.  The golden light of a few minutes before reddened, with more blue too, imparting a filtered magenta tone to sky and land as the very last rays of the sun reflected off clouds aloft that couldn’t be seen directly.   I’ve seen a lot of amazing sunsets, but this truly was different.  The diffused, pastel color evolution, bathing such a richly textured land and sky, was breathtaking, and will remain indelibly branded into my appreciative reminiscences of the whole 2021 Southwest storm and landscape expedition.  Back to Part 1.

About

Welcome to SkyPix, an online photo book of clouds, weather and water by Roger Edwards. As in a printed coffee-table book, every image has its own page with a unique story. After all, meaningful photography is much more than just picture-taking; it is visually rendering a moment in place and time from a perspective like none other. As a scientist and an artist, I hope my deep passion for the power and splendor of our skies and waters shines through in these pages. If you are a cloud and weather aficionado, outdoor enthusiast, outdoor or nature photographer, art lover, or anyone who craves learning, enjoy...
