Cauliflower Towers
Even in its weakening, post-tornado stages, surrounded by other growing convection that soon would absorb it, the Prospect Valley supercell offered one final moment of convective glory with this display of massive, rotating and sharply defined storm towers. After the tornadic mesocyclone weakened, the one to its east rotated nicely but didn’t produce, its low levels eroding at left even as the mid and upper levels amazed with their form and texture. The newer and final occlusion was underway at bottom right with a wall cloud, ultimately also nonproductive, thanks to the merger. This entire marvelous display made a nice goodbye to observers for a storm that offered abundant wonderment. Moments like this are a huge part of the reason why I return to the High Plains year after year.
