Blasting the Borderlands

2019-09-05 By Roger Edwards

Much like other modes of storm observing, chasing lightning in Arizona often requires many hours of driving and/or patient monitoring before getting into position for the show that may or may not happen.  In this case, I had driven west from Las Cruces, NM, for the first of four days of an abbreviated monsoonal moisture intrusion near Tucson, the afternoons of which were spent roaming the few roads west, south and east of town to corral some big sparks.  This was the second substantial blast of electricity from a young, diffuse, yet well-charged core several miles to the west. 5 W Amado AZ (15 Jul 19) Looking WSW 31.7191, -111.1501

About

Welcome to SkyPix, an online photo book of clouds, weather and water by Roger Edwards. As in a printed coffee-table book, every image has its own page with a unique story. After all, meaningful photography is much more than just picture-taking; it is visually rendering a moment in place and time from a perspective like none other. As a scientist and an artist, I hope my deep passion for the power and splendor of our skies and waters shines through in these pages. If you are a cloud and weather aficionado, outdoor enthusiast, outdoor or nature photographer, art lover, or anyone who craves learning, enjoy...
