All the Phases
Water works wondrous ways in wintertime, especially at a place like Mono Lake that often features all three phases of its existence on earth, at once. We see the forms of solid ice crystals in the snow and the salt-infused lake liquid, and understand the presence of vapor through condensed cloud material. Different densities of fluid water exist here too, in the form of warm mineral springs on the lake bottom. Such springs are the same type that formed the famous tufa towers now marooned above the waterline. As a photographer, I enjoyed the color contrasts and layering of this scene, especially when clouds temporarily dimmed the glaring sunshine and brought forth a great view of the near-shore lake bottom through the placid water.
